Bosch TAS4511UC Review

The Tassimo Hot beverage system, as you may already know, was originally being distributed by Braun but is now being manufactured and distributed by Bosch. The quality of the Braun systems was good, but the newer Bosch systems are even better. The new Bosch systems are very quick compared to the older Braun models and they will no longer wake everyone else up in your up when you’re brewing an early cup of coffee. These newer Bosch Tassimo models are silent.

This review covers the TAS4511UC model of the Tassimo hot beverage system by Bosch. You can purchase the TAS 4511UC model from a variety of stores, including Target, Amazon, and Tassimo Direct. This particular single-serve coffee brewer comes with a MSRP of $169.99.

T Discs

If you are familiar with Tassimo brewing machines than you can skip this section, but for those of you who are unfamiliar with the sheer quantity of hot beverages the Bosch Tassimo machine can make I can guarantee the list will surprise you. The TAS4511UC is able to use any T Disc you throw in it. Unlike other single-serve hot beverage machines, the Tassimo system can make the following variety of beverages:

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Hot Chocolate
  • Espresso
  • Lattes
  • Cappuccinos

This makes the Tassimo system great for a family with varying tastes. The same machine that brews your coffee can make your husband or wife a chai tea latte and your child a hot chocolate.

Tassimo also works with some of the biggest names in the coffee industry. Starbucks, Seattle’s Best, Gevalia, Twinings and Maxwell House all make T Discs.

So, what is it about the Tassimo system that allows it to produce lattes and cappuccinos when other single serve coffee markers can’t? Well, the T Discs for these beverages are filled with hyper-pasteurized milk, which allows them to be shelf-stable. This allows the Bosch Tassimo coffee system to create delicious, rich drinks.

Differences Between Bosch Tassimo and Braun Tassimo

One of the improvements that Bosch has made over the Braun design is the ability to change the height of the cup stand to fit travel mugs, normal coffee mugs, and even small espresso cups. In the Braun model you could not have the coffee made directly into your travel mug. This is a vast improvement that I’m excited about because I no longer have to dirty another mug and then pour the coffee into my travel mug when I’m on the go.

Another improvement that the new Bosch Tassimo TAS 4511 UC has over the old Braun models is “on demand brewing.” Rather than heating up the entire water reservoir, the Tassimo system just heats up the water needed to brew your single cup and it does this on the fly. This has the benefit of cutting down the time required to brew a cup of coffee and also decreases the noise of the system. In the older Braun models the noise was very noticeable and could actually wake people up depending on where it was located in relation to people who were sleeping. This model is very quiet and your family will be thankful.

You will also notice improvements when it comes to the water reservoir and the filtration system. The reservoir itself is large and is very easy to carry to the sink because of its handle. I found the transportation of the reservoir to be difficult in some previous models because of the lack of a handle. On some occasions I actually dropped the reservoir when it was filled with water. This Tassimo model also includes a water filtration system and it comes with two filters. I personally don’t plan on buying any additional filters for a long time because I personally use mine well over the suggested time (but that’s a personal preference).

I also find the new designs to be very sleek and aesthetically pleasing. As you’ll notice in my pictures, this model really doesn’t take up too much room. It fits nicely on my office desk and can go great just about anywhere. Some of the old models were simply hideous and often clashed with the decorations where I wanted to put them. I find that this one can be used in either an office or a kitchen setting, which is perfect for my needs.

Timed Test

I’m sure you’re interested in knowing just how long it will take you to get a cup of coffee out of your Tassimo coffee maker. To provide real numbers I timed the time it took the Tassimo machine to make a cup of Starbucks Breakfast Blend from the moment I hit the start button to the moment it was completely done making my coffee. The total time to brew was 1 minute and 37 seconds. You can see the picture from my time trial below.

Conclusion

I absolutely love the new Bosch Tassimo TAS4511UC hot beverage system. Even if you already have a Tassimo machine, the improvements in the features and design are worth upgrading for. This model is very quiet and it makes an amazing cup of coffee. The model can be pricey from certain locations ($161.99 at Amazon), but if you purchase it directly from Tassimo you can get it for $99 plus you’ll receive 2 packs of T-Discs and 2 travel mugs as a free bonus gift.
